Pray this Lazaroo in deepened understanding:

“…a wisdom that has been hidden…”
(1 Corinthians 2:7)

Please forgive me, Jesus, but I have to ask –

Why would you hide Your wisdom from me?
I need it so desperately!

It’s about timing, isn’t it?

You’ve said there’s a time for everything.
“Everything” would include wisdom. 😉

But it’s also about my growth, isn’t it?

You could just dump all Your wisdom on me at once.

But how much better for me to learn it

step

by

step.

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt pleading:

“Go, assemble the elders of Israel…”
(Exodus 3:16)

Israel’s elders spoke to and for Your people, Jesus.

They were seasoned, experienced, wise, trustworthy.

But for all that, the message You told Moses to deliver to them

would have been almost impossible to accept
unless you moved on the hearts of the elders to believe it –

which You did.

Do that for me, Holy Spirit!

When You send me to someone with an amazing message, please:

Go before me.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“Like the fool, the wise too must die!”
(Ecclesiastes 2:16)

Solomon’s right, Jesus.

But the death of the fool who says You don’t exist
is radically different from the death of the wise person

who knows You do –
and trusts You as Savior!

In fact, it’s the wise person who is most aware that death is coming.

Fools do their best to ignore their mortality
living each day for themselves, rather than for You.

Big…big…BIG mistake.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…but not the wisdom of this age…”
(1 Corinthians 2:6)

Every age believes in its own wisdom, Jesus.

We disagree with the way our parents and their generation ran things.

We can’t wait till we’re strong enough
to grab the reins of power and do things our way!

Only with the passage of years do we begin to discover

that many of our parents’ ways
look better and better all the time

and that Your ways are still best.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“…the LORD commanded the fish…”
(Jonah 2:10)

…and he did exactly what You told him to, Jesus.

If a fish can do what You command

why can’t I?

Oh, I do…most of the time.

But I have some things I need to work on, don’t I?

Some might argue that a fish is too stupid to do anything other than what he’s told.

O God! Help me attain that level of stupidity!

It’s embarrassing to be upstaged by a fish.

Be grateful, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…just as Mordecai had told her to do…”
(Esther 2:20)

Blindly following the orders of another human being

can end up in tragedy, Jesus.

But not this time.

Esther was young, inexperienced.
Mordecai was not only older, but wise.

Moreover, Mordecai had only Esther’s best interests at heart.

In addition, he had proven himself to Esther –
taking her in and treating her like a daughter
when her parents died.

Most importantly –

Mordecai knew and wholeheartedly followed You.

Pray this Lazaroo, trusting God’s design:

“This too is meaningless.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

Yes it was, Jesus…

…and no, it wasn’t.

Meaningless to Solomon?

Sure. He was stuck with what he could see.

Because You had given him unprecedented wisdom

he supposed that if he couldn’t figure it out

there was nothing to it.

But meaningless to You?

No, no, never-never, huh-uh, uh!

Every person, plant, animal, behavior, event and substance

on or off this earth

has meaning to You!

Because You do nothing without purpose.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong.”
(Galatians 2:11)

Peter wasn’t infallible, Jesus.

Nor was Paul, who opposed him.
Nor is any leader, no matter how wise, respected or famous.

Nor am I.

Sooner or later, we all need to be corrected.

But when it’s my turn to be corrected
may it be by somebody like Paul

who opposed Peter to his face
rather than behind his back.

Pray this Lazaroo with transparency:

“I said in my heart…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

If I say it in my heart

that’s where it counts, Jesus –
the place where only You can see.

Some of the things I say with my lips

don’t really reflect what’s in my heart.

I don’t mean to be a hypocrite.

I don’t want to be a person
who pretends to be someone I’m not.

But not everything that’s in my heart

is safe to say out loud
or wise.

Pray this Lazaroo in thrilled anticipation:

“…the same fate overtakes them both.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:14)

That’s the way it looks to us down here under the sun, Jesus.

No matter how gifted and successful the wise person
no matter how evil and irresponsible the fool

both die.

Meaningless.
Depressing.

But that’s not how the story ends!

Thanks to what You did for me on the cross

my life on this earth is the first word
in the first chapter

of an adventure that has no end.
