Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“They claim to know God…”
(Titus 1:16)

Anyone can claim to know You, Jesus

but most don’t.

The broad road that carries so many travelers leads away from You.
It’s the narrow road that points a few straight to You –

believing in Your death, burial and resurrection
loving You with all their hearts, souls, minds and strength
loving not only their friends, neighbors and family

but also total strangers
faithfully defending the cause of the poor and needy.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…she won his favor and approval…”
(Esther 2:17)

There’s no doubt about it, Jesus –

Esther was beautiful.
Beautiful people win favor and approval more easily than others.

But that’s not why this king was so attracted to her.

You made it happen.

You positioned her in the crucially important role

You designed her to carry out.

If I’m obedient, You’ll grant me the favor and approval I need

to carry out every task and role You’ve designed for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“…if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.”
(2 Timothy 2:5)

You’re telling me the same thing applies to me, aren’t You, Jesus?

If I want to win Heaven’s crown, Your one rule is pretty simple:

Believe in You.

Of course, if I truly believe in You,

I’ll love and obey You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength
and love my neighbor as myself.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful peace:

“They…put its doors and bolts and bars in place.”
(Nehemiah 3:6)

It’s a shame to have to do that to a door, Jesus.

Doors are meant to keep out the cold and heat
provide easy passage in and out.

But evil lurks outside every door:

thieves, rapists, murderers.

So to the beauty of a massive city door

they were forced to add bolts and bars.

I’m forced to do the same

while knowing only You
can keep me safe.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…that we may live…in all godliness…”
(1 Timothy 2:2)

I would love to like that, Jesus!

In fact, I try.
And fail.

I’m not even sure what living in all godliness looks like.

But what I do know of it
I’m not doing.

Not completely.
Not consistently.

I want to. I mean to.

And still fall short.

I’ll never quit trying! You deserve my best.

But unless You show up in love, mercy and forgiveness
it won’t get done.

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“In the second month of the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel…Joshua…and the rest of the people…began the work.”
(Ezra 3:8)

Exciting times, Jesus!

a new beginning
a new temple

in a very old cause – the greatest of all

to bring glory to You
the Ancient of Days.

May every new beginning I undertake be in this same, very old cause.

May ever fresh start on which I embark
be for You!

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will…destroy by the splendor of his coming.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:8)

I love the sound of that, Jesus!

The antichrist will terrorize the world.
He’ll
look fearsome, powerful, unbeatable

until You show up

and make his searchlight look like a burned out match.

Right now, I can only imagine what that stunning event will be like.

But on that Day of days
I’ll have a front row seat.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“He assigned…80,000 to be stonecutters…”
(2 Chronicles 2:18)

Not an easy job, Jesus.

Stone cutting requires skill, strength, training.

Not a particularly safe job, either.

Pieces of stone can put out an eye.
Hammers can miss their mark and crush

hands
fingers
arms
legs
feet.

Still, the job had to be done.

Your temple had to be built.

Many of the jobs You assign are like that –

requiring skill, strength, training, risk-taking courage –

because Your kingdom has to be built.

Be filled with gratitude, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)

But not every father encourages, Jesus.

Some with their words

discourage, belittle, condemn
pull the rug out from under their offspring.

Others by their example

humiliate, anger, disappoint
lead their children astray

Thank You for every father who encourages!

But thank You even more for being the greatest Father of all

who encourages, uplifts and inspires
every single one of us!
