Embrace your calling as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering…”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

You’ve got an assignment for everyone, Jesus

but You have so much that needs to be done
so many lives to be touched

that we can’t all do the same job.

What a tragedy if I’m so envious of what someone else is doing

that I totally miss the indescribable joy
of doing what You’ve designed me to do.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed horror…and gratitude:

“…through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
(Colossians 1:20)

The peace with You I now enjoy wasn’t made at a conference table, Jesus.

It wasn’t agreed to with a handshake
wasn’t wordsmithed on a piece of paper.

It was paid in full by You

through Your excruciatingly painful

ugly
wholly undeserved
patently unfair
outrageously unjust
humiliating death

on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Nevertheless he clung to the sins of Jeroboam…which he had caused Israel to commit…”
(2 Kings 3:3)

A leader of anything has a terrible responsibility, doesn’t he, Jesus?

Not only does she have to answer for her own actions
but You hold her accountable for the actions of those under her care.

Certainly, it’s not the leader’s fault if his people go astray

so long as he’s led faithfully, according to Your Word.

But if he hasn’t?
God help him.

Grow in understanding, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ…then I will know that you stand firm…”
(Philippians 1:27)

That’s how I know someone’s for real, isn’t it, Jesus?

When they conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel

“…whatever happens.”

So long as things are going well, most of us can appear to keep it together.

But when all hell breaks loose
there’s no faking it.

They’re either the real deal…or they aren’t.

Pray this Lazaroo in wise faith:

“When Bathsheba went to King Solomon…the king…bowed down to her…”
(1 Kings 2:19)

I love the respect Solomon showed his mother, Jesus.

Of all his wise behaviors
this may have been his best.

I wonder…

did he know what his mother endured to be in this position?

Was he aware that King David killed her husband to hide the pregnancy he had caused

resulting in his older brother’s death?

O God!

Give me mad respect for those who’ve suffered.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…the incomparable riches of his grace…”
(Ephesians 2:7)

It’s true, Jesus.

There’s no comparison to being forgiven for inexcusable crimes
and treated instead like sinless royalty.

Who does that?

Only You.

The rest of the world wants revenge, justice, payback

while You went to the cross to give us the only way out
a stunning opportunity to escape scot-free!

But why? Why? Why would You treat us like this?

There can be only one answer:

Your baffling, incomprehensible love.

Pray this Lazaroo in solemn refelction:

“The length of time David was king in Hebron over Judah was seven years and six months.”
(2 Samuel 2:11)

That kind of information is a little hard to come by in advance, Jesus.

Only in retrospect am I able to put boundaries
around the seasons of my life.

You, on the other hand, knew beforehand the exact time David was going to reign in Hebron

just as You know when this season I’m now in
will end.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your being:

“James, Peter and John, those esteemed as pillars…”
(Galatians 2:9)

I’d say so, Jesus!

James, your half-brother

author of the New Testament book that bears his name

Peter, one of Your twelve apostles

author of two New Testament books that bear his name

John, the beloved apostle

author of four New Testament books that bear his name

I’m no pillar in Your Church, Jesus

but I long to follow You as they did
with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.

Pray this Lazaroo in awestruck gratitude:

“The LORD…brings down to the grave and raises up.”
(1 Samuel 2:6)

The fact that You can take me out at any moment is sobering, Jesus

but it’s one thing to end a life
quite another to resurrect it.

Sadly, there are a lot of people out there who – accidentally or on purpose –

can make my heart stop beating.

But after I’m dead and buried

You’re the only one who can make it start beating again.

I’m with You.
